DISPLAY ENERGY CERTIFICATE

From 9 January 2013, if you are an occupier of a public building requiring a DEC, you will need to display a DEC showing an operational rating in a prominent place clearly visible to the public. You will also need to have in your possession or control a valid advisory report.

The purpose of introducing DEC is to raise public awareness of energy use and to inform visitors to public buildings about the energy use of a building.
DEC provides an energy rating of the building from A to G, where A is very efficient and G is the least efficient.
DEC is based on the actual amount of metered energy used by the building over the last 12 months within the validity period.

Display Energy Certificate

All Public buildings and Institutions with a total floor area of more than 250m2 require a Display Energy Certificate.
On 30^th December 2008, it was made mandatory for all public buildings meeting above criteria to display a valid Display Energy Certificate on their premises.
The responsibility for displaying the Display Energy Certificate (DEC) lies solely on the institution or authority in charge of the building.
Display Energy Certificate for Buildings over 1000 Sq.m is valid for 1 year and Advisory Report is valid for 7 years.
Display Energy Certificate & Advisory Reports for Public Buildings over 250 Sq.m and upto 1000 Sq.m are valid for 10 years.
