DISPLAY ENERGY CERTIFICATE
From 9 January 2013, if you are an occupier of a public building requiring a DEC, you will need to display a DEC showing an operational rating in a prominent place clearly visible to the public. You will also need to have in your possession or control a valid advisory report.

Display Energy Certificate
- All Public buildings and Institutions with a total floor area of more than 250m2 require a Display Energy Certificate.
- On 30th December 2008, it was made mandatory for all public buildings meeting above criteria to display a valid Display Energy Certificate on their premises.
- The responsibility for displaying the Display Energy Certificate (DEC) lies solely on the institution or authority in charge of the building.
- Display Energy Certificate for Buildings over 1000 Sq.m is valid for 1 year and Advisory Report is valid for 7 years.
- Display Energy Certificate & Advisory Reports for Public Buildings over 250 Sq.m and upto 1000 Sq.m are valid for 10 years.

Buildings over 250 Sq.m require a Display Energy Certificate by Law.

Examples of Buildings require DEC: Schools, NHS Buildings, Public Libraries Universities etc.

Private companies within a Public Buildings are NOT required to have DEC.

DEC is valid for 1 year for properties over 1000 Sq.m

There is a penalty for not displaying a valid DEC at the premises.
